The Sundown Roughnecks traveled to Floydada on October 11 to take on the Whirlwinds to become 1-0 in district and 4-2 overall on the season, with a 49-7 convincing win.
The Varsity boys took care of business when it came to the kickoff at 7:30pm. The Roughnecks had a pretty good game when it came to run with 288 total rushing yards. Christan Huey threw the ball for 151 yards and two touchdowns, both to #25 Michael Ojeda. The Roughnecks had a total of 25 first down conversions. The defense held the Whirlwinds to 21 passing yards and 82 rushing yards.
“I think our offense and defensive lline controlled the line of scrimmage; anytime you can control the line of scrimmage you have a high chance to be successful.” said Head Coach Adam Cummings, now in his second year as head coach of the Roughnecks. When asked about what the 4-2 Roughnecks need to work on to raise their chances of beating the Hale Center Owls Coach Cummings said, “We have to continue to work on our coverages and putting pressure on the quarterback; from an offensive standpoint we have to focus on the details of blocking up front and executing our run game to set up our pass game.”
