After a devastating loss to Post, the Varsity boys are 2-1 in district and 5-3 on the season. Last week, on the road at Post was a rough day for the Roughnecks. The Roughnecks traveled to battle the #6 Post Antelopes. A battle turned into a war; the Roughnecks fought hard till the very end of the 4th quarter. The game consisted of two well-coached and physical teams. The offense had a pretty good night with a total of 52 plays run. The leading rusher was #26 Cade Conway with a total of 68 yards. Senior quarterback #3 Christian Huey had a total of 17 completions for 221 yards and two touchdowns. The leading receiver with 143 yards was #42 Gus Davis who also caught one of the two touchdowns by Huey. The other was #25 Michael Ojeda who finished with 58 yards and one touchdown. The offensive linemen of the week was Seth McDaniel.
The defense held the Antelopes to 52 total plays with only 16 first downs. Senior #4 Kaden Marshall had 25 tackles. The defense held there own and surely showed Post that they are here to fight and thats what they did. The defense only allowed one passing touchdown. The Antelopes had a total of 30 passing yards. The defense will always show up to play believe that.
Head Coach Adam Cummings discussed the game, “I think we executed really well at sometimes and we won the hitting contest too; I think we were more physical than them, too.” When asked about what the boys could have done better, he replied, “I thought we missed too many tackles defensively especially on some of their big plays that we could have stopped them behind the line of scrimmage. And on the offensive side we had too many penalties; when facing a good team like Post it becomes more obvious of how they hurt you. Overall I think our execution and effort was really good and we played with a lot of physicality.” Senior Kaden Marshall reflected on Friday’s game against Post, “We went in and we executed some of our plays and the ones we didn’t Post just took advantage. We just have to bounce back against Olton and trust in our coaches. They will have the best game plan for us.”
The Sundown Roughnecks play Olton Friday, November 1st in Olton at 7:30pm.
